Robert Thomson first became interested in photography back in 1979 when he purchased his first 35mm SLR camera. With no formal training, he learned about photography the hard way, using books for the technical aspects and for inspiration he would visit galleries in London where well known photographers would exhibit their work. Initially working with black & white and colour transparency film he soon started achieving outstanding results. Within a couple of years he began using medium format cameras for the additional quality they offered and set up a darkroom, processing films and producing black & white and Cibachrome colour prints. Allowing him to have complete control over his images and a comprehensive understanding for the whole photographic process. He now photographs everything with digital cameras and his darkroom has been replaced with photoshop.

Robert says “I still have the same enthusiasm and love for photography that I had when I started, over the last several years digital cameras could finally compete with film and in some areas they now exceed what was previously achievable. My extensive knowledge with photoshop has allowed me to push the boundaries in creating the final image even further. If I ever pick a camera up and ask myself why I am doing this, then that is the day I will retire”.
